TECNO CAMON 16 Premier Review

What's up dear Pinchers?

Welcome back to my blog. And today I will discuss about the TECNO CAMON 16 Premier.

The Camon 16 Premier is the latest addition to TECNO's Camon line up. The Camon series is camera centric range and this new one is no exception.

Now let's see what's it has inside. Taking off the lid reveals the large display of the Camon 16. Let's put that aside for a second to see what else is in the box. In this pack you get a 12+ 1 months warranty card and a semi clear silicon phone case with the TECNO and Manchester city logo inscribed on it. Next you have the micro USB cable, it's totally disappointing that we keep seeing micro usb on phone in 2020. I mean what's wrong with putting a USB C connector? Finally you get the charger brick which doesn't support any version for fast changing what so ever.

Coming to the phone itself. The Camon 16 Premier comes in colors Glacial Silver. This is weird naming scheme but I like it. It's glossy look is definitely a down side as this would be a perfect fingerprint magnet as opposed to being a mirror. At the back you also have that 4 camera setup with a 64 Mega pixels main sensor wide angle with 8MP ultrawide, 2MP depth video camera and 2MP depth and an inscription that's say Innovation designed by TECNO. At the left side you have the sim card slot. You get 2 Nano sims and a micro sd card slot. The top is totally vacant while the right side houses the volume and power button. At the bottom you have the speaker grill, Micro USB port, microphone cut out and headphone jack, at least we still have that. And the front you have that hole Punch camera that sits at the top left corner of the screen. Honestly I think this is the perfect position for an in display camera and guess what? It has 48MP wide camera with 8MP ultrawide camera.

The Camon 16 Premier spots a 6.9 inches 1080 x 2460 pixels display with 88.7% screen to body ratio, the bezels are visible but quite slim. The screen is quite large and would definitely be great for watching contents especially YouTube. While the hole punch camera is embedded in the display it barely causes any obstruction and can be completely overlooked when watching a video or playing games.

Talking about power, it packs a 4500mAh battery, I think this is no surprise considering the size of the phone, there is enough room for the large battery. Charging the device fully takes about 1 and half hour to 2 hours but I would do a full review of that in a subsequent video. It comes in either 128 gig storage and 8gig RAM.

The Camon 16 Premier is powered by a MediaTek Helio G90T (12nm) Octa processor which is clocked at speed of 2 GHz and a Mali-G76 MC4 GPU. It runs on Android 10 and TECNO's UI HiOs 6.0. It's retains most of the redundant preinstalled apps that comes with every TECNO phones but the good thing is that they can be uninstalled. My favorite features would be the dark mode, the ability to pin apps in the task manager and the app drawer which provides easy access to shortcuts. From my testing I did not encounter any issue, I also played a bit of Asphalt 8 and did not have issues with lagging.

Coming to the selling point of this phone, the camera! The selfie camera is 48 MP camera with digital zoom. It shoots 1080p at 30 fps and has a ring flash for low light conditions
At the back we have the 64 megapixel Quad camera setup. Although Tecno doesn't specify the cameras but I did a little digging and was able to get some information. The primary camera is a 48 Megapixel f2.2 camera. The main camera is a 64 megapixel camera with F1.9 aperture thats shoots also 1080p at 30 fps The third camera is a 2 MP camera with f2.4 aperture specifically for taking macro shots. And the last is a 2 Megapixel camera for depth sensing In all the 4 cameras work together to produce great images using AI. In the camera application you have the 64 Mega pixel mode for high quality image capture and also the super night mode to produce great images in low light conditions Here are some of the images I took. I also tested the video quality on both the back camera and selfie camera.

The images are sharp, I especially like the ones at night as I did get lovely colors. get lovely colors. The super night mode produced different results as it sometimes loses some details while try to compensate for light. I do expect to test the camera more and would come back with a better verdict so watch out for that video.

The price of the Camon 16 Premier would vary in different regions but it should definitely be around the 130 - 150 dollars.
So that's all for now. Thanks a lot Pinchers.
