OnePlus 8T Specification

Hello Pinchers!

You're not the only one if you feel like it's just yesterday OnePlus launched the OnePlus 8. I felt the same too until I looked up and found out that it's been nearly 4 months since the launch. I guess that's due to everything that keeps happening in 2020. Anyway, OnePlus is gearing up to launch its second flagship of the year, the OnePlus 8T, and almost all of its specifications have been leaked on the internet including how it looks. First of all, OnePlus accidentally leaked, yeah accidentally, leaked the OnePlus 8T in the latest Android 11 developer preview for OnePlus 8. It looks identical to the OnePlus 8 except the bezels are smaller and the display looks to be flat.

Both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have curved displays by the way. Moving on, we also have some specifications of the OnePlus 8 thanks to Android Central. The display size will remain the same as the OnePlus 8, which is 6.55" AMOLED panel. But the 8T seeing an upgrade in the refresh rate department. It'll have 120Hz of refresh rate compared to 90Hz on OnePlus 8. The processor is also seeing an update, Snapdragon 865+ this time compared to 865 on its predecessor. Cameras are seeing an upgrade as well. It will have a 48MP/16MP/5MP/2MP array for standard, ultrawide, macro, and portrait respectively. The 48MP camera in particular will have a much bigger sensor than last time and that's a good thing because the 48MP camera on the OnePlus 8 wasn't good compared to the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The ram and storage will be 8GB and 128GB respectively for the base version. It will also come with Android 11 right out of the box, and Oxygen OS 11 which to be honest, is heavily inspired by Samsung's One UI. That's not particularly a bad thing considering One UI is the best user interface in my opinion but this one looks a whole lot worse than One UI and I don't think diverting so heavily from stock Android is a good idea for OnePlus considering one of the main reasons people buy a OnePlus phone is for the near-stock experience. I totally understand OnePlus is trying hard to set itself apart, but copying Samsung's UI isn't the way to do it. They're shooting themselves in the foot taking away one of the main reasons people buy their phones, which is the stock Android experience with just a few useful features and customization options added in. Hail oneplus 8t, oneplus 8t pro.

If people want One UI they will get the real thing from Samsung. But at the same time, I'm not really surprised about this either because OnePlus has stopped being the nerd brand and is trying to compete with the big boys in mainstream phones. That comes with needing a brand identity but a drastic shift like this may or may not work for them considering near-stock Android experience was one of the main USP of OnePlus phones. Anyway, let me know what do you think about this down in the comments and till then, keep pinching!
